Y Cwmpawd Gilfach

Y Cwmpawd Gilfach is an educational provision located at Gilfach House, William Street, Gilfach, Bargoed, Caerphilly. It serves pupils aged 7 to 16 years with a focus on supporting those with additional learning needs, including pupils with emotionally based school avoidance. The provision includes three sites: Ty Gilfach (a Pupil Referral Unit for ages 11-16), Innovate (a joint Youth Service and education provision for ages 13-16), and The Hive (community-based tuition). The curriculum is tailored to pupils' needs, offering academic, vocational, and personal development qualifications alongside community projects that foster a strong sense of belonging. Welsh language is well embedded in daily routines and curriculum content. The school has about 96 pupils across its provisions, many with individual development plans and a significant proportion eligible for free school meals. The school is noted for calm teaching environments and strong transition support to reduce the risk of pupils becoming not in education, employment, or training (NEET).
