About Ysgol Gyfun Y Strade
Ysgol Gyfun Y Strade, often known as Y Strade, is a Welsh-medium bilingual comprehensive school and sixth form located on Heol Sandy in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire. Established in 1977, it serves students aged 11 to 18 and is the only Welsh medium comprehensive school in the Llanelli area with a sixth form. The school has a strong reputation for its arts department, which has won numerous national awards including in choir, drama, and public speaking, and has featured on BBC programs such as Songs of Praise. It also has a notable rugby program with successes in various competitions including the WRU under 18s Welsh cup. The school underwent significant facility improvements in 2015, including new science and design & technology extensions and refurbished classrooms for music, media, and drama, supported by Welsh Government and Carmarthenshire County Council funding.
