Hawarden High School

Hawarden High School, established in 1606, is one of the oldest schools in Wales and serves the community of Hawarden and surrounding villages in Flintshire. It is an English medium secondary comprehensive school for students aged 11 to 18, with approximately 1200 pupils. The school has a rich history, having been situated on its current site since the 1890s, featuring many listed buildings that contribute to its unique character. Over the years, it has evolved from a grammar and junior high school to its current comprehensive status. The school offers a broad curriculum and a wide range of extracurricular activities, including community engagement opportunities that enhance learning. Facilities include a school hall, sports centre, technology department, and drama studio, with a significant extension opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998. The school is recognized for academic excellence, with A-Level results ranking in the top 25% nationally as of 2019, and has received a National Quality Award for health and wellbeing.
