About Powys Pupil Referral Unit
Powys Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) was established in December 2014 following the de-registration of two pupil referral units in the county. It is a specialist centre providing educational provision to pupils aged 5-16 who are permanently excluded or at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools, as well as other pupils for whom the Local Authority has statutory responsibility. The PRU offers short-term placements for pupils up to the end of Key Stage 3 with the aim of successful re-integration back into mainstream settings. At Key Stage 4, the focus shifts to achieving accreditation to support pupils into the next stage of their education, employment, or training. The unit has capacity for up to 54 pupils and operates with satellite bases including one at Llandrindod Wells Youth Centre.
