Ysgol Pen Rhos

Ysgol Pen Rhos is a dual-stream primary school located in Llanelli, serving nearly 500 pupils aged 3 to 11, including a Flying Start nursery with about 60 part-time pupils. The school was formed in 2018 through the amalgamation of Copperworks Infant School (established 1847) and Lakefield Primary School (established in the 1880s), and operates in a modern, purpose-built facility funded by the Welsh Government's 21st Century Schools Modernising Education Programme. The school serves a community with significant socio-economic challenges, including a high proportion of pupils eligible for free school meals and special educational needs, and adopts a trauma-informed, family-focused approach to education and wellbeing. It offers specialist interventions such as well-being groups, art therapy, and bereavement counselling, and emphasizes strong parental engagement and community support. The building itself is designed with sustainability and community integration in mind, featuring a Flying Start Centre, a 3G pitch, and environmentally efficient architecture.
