About St Mary's R.C. (A) School
St Mary's Catholic Primary School is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic primary school located on Milford Road in Newtown, Powys. The school has a rich history dating back to 1948 when Plas Dolerw was purchased to accommodate a growing Catholic population. Initially started as a boarding/preparatory school with a day department, it evolved into a parish school known for small class sizes, excellent discipline, and a strong emphasis on good manners. The Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus ran the school from 1958 until 1994, after which leadership passed to lay headteachers. Currently led by Mrs Barbara Legge, the school focuses on nurturing each child's unique talents and skills within a faith-based, inclusive environment. It promotes purposeful learning, digital literacy, and community values inspired by its Catholic ethos.
