It was established on 1 September 2006 following the closure of its predecessor, Thamesbridge College, which was formerly Ashmead School. The school became part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust in January 2025, aiming to benefit from collaboration with other schools in the trust. The academy was renamed Hartland High School in September 2025 after a community consultation.
