About Ysgol Uwchradd Glan Clwyd
Ysgol Uwchradd Glan Clwyd, also known as Ysgol Glan Clwyd, is a Welsh-medium secondary school located on Ffordd Dinbych (Upper Denbigh Road), Llanelwy (St Asaph), Denbighshire, Wales. It was the first Welsh-medium secondary school in Wales, established in 1956 initially in Rhyl before relocating to St Asaph in 1969. The school offers education for pupils aged 11 to 18 and is known for its strong bilingual curriculum, with all subjects taught through the medium of Welsh except English and a few sixth form subjects. It has a class for non-Welsh speakers to learn Welsh before joining mainstream classes. The school underwent significant refurbishment and modernization, with a new building opening in 2017 as part of Denbighshire County Council's twenty-first century school modernization plan. The school is noted for fostering bilingualism and Welsh culture, serving a diverse catchment area including coastal and rural communities. Facilities include Theatr Elwy, a 250-seat auditorium used for school and community events.
