About Bishop Gore School
Bishop Gore School is a historic secondary school located in Sketty, Swansea, Wales, founded in 1682 by Hugh Gore, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore. Originally established as a free grammar school for boys, it has undergone several relocations and name changes, moving to its current site on De La Beche Road in Sketty in 1952. The school transitioned from an all-boys grammar school to a co-educational comprehensive school in 1971 after merging with other local schools. The campus is noted for its extensive facilities including gymnasia, a swimming pool, lecture hall, and a large assembly hall, set in a scenic location near Singleton Park and Swansea University with views over Swansea Bay. It has a strong academic reputation, having been ranked highly by the Welsh Government in 2013 based on exam performance and other criteria.
