The Lodestar Academy

Lodestar Academy, previously known as Burton Academy, is an alternative provision school for students aged 11-16 in Torbay, Devon. The school serves learners whose needs cannot be met within a mainstream environment, particularly those exhibiting social, emotional, and behavioural concerns, as well as young people impacted by traumatic life experiences. The Academy focuses on developing social, emotional, academic, and vocational skills, promoting key life skills to help students reach their full potential as learners and citizens. The school received an Ofsted rating of 'Good' in all areas in 2024, representing a significant improvement from its previous 'Requires Improvement' rating in 2020. Recent initiatives include the opening of a new library dedicated to supporting literacy development and the launch of a virtual art exhibition featuring Year 11 student artworks.
