Founded in 1978, it originally operated in an older building in Carmarthen before moving to a modern facility in Croesyceiliog in 1996. The school is named after 'Bro Myrddin,' meaning 'Myrddin's country,' referencing the Welsh name for Merlin, linking the school to local Welsh heritage. It is the only designated Welsh-medium secondary school in Carmarthenshire and became a Category CC school in 2016, meaning all subjects except English are taught through Welsh for new students.
