Wharfedale Montessori School

Wharfedale Montessori School is an independent Montessori preschool and primary school located on the Bolton Abbey Estate near Skipton, North Yorkshire. Founded in 1990 by Jane Lord, it was one of the first Montessori schools in the UK to offer primary education (ages 6-11) in addition to early years education. The school is situated in a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Strid Wood, which it uses to enhance its hands-on, nature-based learning approach. The school emphasizes individualized education aligned with Montessori principles, aiming to help children develop confidence, knowledge, and responsibility. It has a nationally recognized reputation for high-quality Montessori education and is led by Principal Jeremy Clarke since September 2024. The Lord family, founders of the school, have been awarded Montessorians of the Year for their dedication to Montessori education.
